The Linux Foundation and VMware sponsored this post.

With two years under its belt, our study on “Open Source Programs in the Enterprise 2020” is poised to be a go-to benchmark for how organizations manage and promote open source software. In partnership with The Linux Foundation’s TODO Group and co-sponsored by VMware, the third annual survey looks at the effectiveness of Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs) and policies that govern open software development. Whether or not your company’s products include open source components, this survey is for you.

When you give us your name and email address, you’ll also be automatically entered into a random drawing to win one of two $250 Visa gift cards. (We will never use your personal information for any other purpose. See the official rules, below, for more details.)

Last year’s study found that OSPOs had shifted their focus from legal compliance to engineering productivity, with increased attention on developer recruitment. This year we probe deeper to quantify how open source initiatives impact software development practices and innovation in general. The survey will also follow up on findings about how open source community citizenship affects buying decisions. The current study includes new questions about:

  • How macroeconomic conditions and COVID-19 are impacting open source funding
  • License compliance tools
  • Information security team involvement

Anyone may enter the sweepstakes starting on Friday, May 1, 2020, by providing their name and email address at the end of the survey. If you do not wish to complete the survey, you may enter the drawing here.
