Offshore doesn’t fail because of the location.
It fails because of the model.

You’ve probably lived through at least two of these:

01

The engineer on your standup is also billed to four other accounts. Nobody will tell you that.

02

A two-hour clarification becomes a two-day delay, then a week of rework.

03

Three months of onboarding walks out the door. The replacement has never opened your repo.

04

Sprints close green. Code fails review — or never got reviewed at all.

05

Your senior engineers lose ten hours a week managing the vendor. The exact thing you outsourced to avoid.

One root cause: engineers who were never actually yours.

What is a dedicated
software development team?

A dedicated software development team is a group of engineers who work exclusively on one client’s product, full-time and long-term, under that client’s technical direction. Unlike project outsourcing, the client owns the roadmap and sets priorities. Unlike a contractor pool, the engineers are not shared, rotated or reassigned when a higher-paying account arrives.

At InApps, that team is recruited, vetted and managed for you in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. You direct the work and own 100% of the code. There’s no entity to register and no office to lease — those are ours.

Three things make it dedicated

Exclusivity.

Your engineers work on your product only. Never split, never billed to two clients in the same month.

Direct access.

You talk to the people writing the code. Your Slack, your standups, your code reviews, with no account manager relaying decisions on technical matters.

Continuity.

92% of our engineers are still on the same team after 12 months, so context stays in the building.

Dedicated team, staff augmentation,
or your own development center?

This page sells the middle rung. Here’s the full ladder anyway, because buying the wrong one is expensive in both directions — you either pay for structure you don’t need, or outgrow the contract in six months.

Size isn’t what separates these. Ownership is. A dedicated team is capacity you rent with a 30-day exit; an ODC is a company you own in Vietnam. Choose a dedicated team when the work doesn’t end but the commitment shouldn’t be permanent yet. A roadmap rather than a project, three or more engineers, and no appetite for registering a foreign entity to find out whether it works.

One engagement.
Everything that makes a team function.

When the team stops being a team
and becomes a department.

Some clients stay at five engineers for years. Others reach twenty and realise Vietnam is now a permanent part of their engineering org — at which point a vendor contract is the wrong container for it.

That’s an offshore development center: a company registered in Vietnam, your brand on the door, your headcount, your office. Most vendors can’t take you there. They either talk you out of it or hand you back to a recruiter.

We build it around the team you already have.

Same engineers. No re-hiring, no re-onboarding, no lost codebase knowledge.
We handle entity registration, payroll transfer, office and compliance.

DEDICATED TEAM 3–20 InApps’ entity DEVELOPMENT CENTER 20+ Your Vietnamese entity 4–6 weeks 4–5 months Build-operate-transfer Same engineers

None of this has to be decided on day one. Start with three engineers on 30 days’ notice and find out whether the model holds. That’s the part most vendors can’t offer.

When this works.
And when we’ll tell you it doesn’t.

Good fit

  • Three or more engineers needed full-time, exclusively on your product
  • A roadmap rather than a one-off project
  • You want to cut hiring cost without adding management overhead
  • You want the same engineers still there in eighteen months

Wrong fit — and we’ll say so on the first call

  • Fixed scope with a hard deadline → project-based development
  • One specialist for six weeks → IT staff augmentation
  • Roadmap not defined yet → talk to us next quarter

An honest no on the call beats a mismatched team six weeks in.

Everything you
need to know

What is a dedicated software development team?
A dedicated software development team is a group of engineers working exclusively on one client’s product, full-time and long-term, under that client’s technical direction. The vendor employs them and handles recruiting, HR and payroll. The client owns the roadmap, the priorities and 100% of the code. At InApps, teams are based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and typically run from three to twenty engineers.
Is a dedicated team the same as staff augmentation?
No. Staff augmentation adds one to five individual engineers into a team you already have, to fill a specific skill gap. A dedicated team is a full unit — engineers, tech lead, QA — built around your roadmap and run as an extension of your engineering org. Both give you direct engineer access and full IP ownership. The difference is scope and time horizon.
What’s the difference between a dedicated team and an offshore development center?
Ownership. With a dedicated team, InApps owns the legal entity, the office, the payroll and the HR risk, and you can scale down on 30 days’ notice. An offshore development center is a company registered in Vietnam that you own — your entity, your brand, your headcount, your office lease, and a real upfront setup cost. Dedicated teams start in 4–6 weeks; an ODC takes 4–5 months to stand up. InApps can convert a dedicated team into an ODC with the same engineers.
Who manages the engineers day to day?
You do. You set technical direction, assign work and run sprints. InApps handles recruiting, HR, payroll, Vietnamese labour compliance, performance management and retention. If you’d rather not run day-to-day delivery, we can supply a tech lead or PM.
How long does it take to get a team running?
4–6 weeks from first call to first sprint, with the first engineer typically placed in 2–4 weeks. Hiring the same roles in the US or Western Europe takes 3–6 months.
How much does a dedicated software development team cost?
Cost depends on team size, seniority mix, stack rarity and commitment length. InApps teams run 60–70% below equivalent US and Western European rates, with no recruiter fees, benefits load or bench time.
What is the minimum team size, and is there a minimum term?
Three engineers. Below that, staff augmentation is the more sensible model and we’ll point you there.
Can we scale the team up or down?
Yes, on 30 days’ notice either way. Scaling up keeps the engineers who already know your codebase instead of restarting the search.
Can we replace one specific engineer without changing the team size?
Yes. If someone isn’t the right fit technically or culturally, tell your engagement manager and we run a replacement search while the current engineer continues until handover. You’re not choosing between keeping a mismatch and shrinking the team.
What happens if an engineer leaves?
92% of our engineers are still on the same team after 12 months. When someone does move on, we run the replacement search and the outgoing engineer overlaps with their replacement for handover. Your tech lead and documentation stay put, so context doesn’t leave with the person.
Who owns the code and IP?
You do, 100%, from the first commit. Under Article 39 of Vietnam’s Law on Intellectual Property the employer owns the economic rights in work created on assignment, so the chain runs engineer to InApps to you, and our master agreement assigns our end on creation rather than on final payment. Every Vietnamese employment contract carries an express assignment plus an Article 22 annex covering modification and derivative works.
How is our code and data protected?
Engineers work from InApps’ managed offices in Ho Chi Minh City on company-controlled devices, behind VPN, SSO and role-based access control, under NDA with background checks completed during vetting. Source code stays in your repositories on your infrastructure.
What about time zone overlap?
Vietnam is UTC+7: 3–5 hours of live overlap with Europe, full overlap with APAC and Australia, and an early-morning window with US East Coast. Teams working with US clients shift hours to hold a fixed daily overlap.
How do you vet engineers?
Four stages: technical assessment, English proficiency at B2 or above, soft skills and collaboration, then a final project review with reference and background checks. About 15% pass the technical assessment, under 5% advance past soft skills, and under 1% are placed with a client.
Which tech stacks do you cover?
React, Next.js, Vue, Angular, Node.js, Python, Go, Java, React Native, Flutter, Swift, Kotlin, AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes and Terraform, plus AI work in LangChain, LangGraph, RAG pipelines and the OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini APIs.
Why Vietnam rather than India or Eastern Europe?
Lower rates than Poland or Ukraine, stronger retention than the large Indian outsourcing market, and a time zone that covers APAC fully while still overlapping Europe. Full breakdown at /compare/vietnam-vs-india.
